Non-Traditional Maternity Photos

I just had the most amazing non-traditional maternity photoshoot at Wrightsville Beach, NC, and I couldn't wait to spill the beans about it to you! So, this lovely couple traveled all the way from Raleigh, and let me tell you, it was such a blast capturing their announcement into the next chapter of their lives… parenthood!
The shoot took place during sunset, which added a magical touch to the whole experience. The colors of the sunset did not disappoint, and made for such a breathtaking backdrop. Seriously, I could not have asked for a more perfect setting to capture this special moment for this sweet couple!
One thing that really stood out to me was how intentional and personal their shoot was. They had a vision in mind and wanted their photos to truly tell a story. They didn't want the typical "smiling at the camera" type of shots. Instead, they wanted a documentary-style feel that would capture the raw emotions and genuine connection between them.
Another favorite thing of mine about this non-traditional feel to a maternity session is… no cringy maternity poses!! I don’t know why, but some poses are so cringy, and awkward feeling and looking to me… so we did everything we could to steer away from those and just let the photos speak for themselves. No super bump focus, belly kissing, just a young couple enjoying this journey of life! I’M OBSESSED!
Throughout the whole shoot, they were completely themselves. They laughed, they hugged, they whispered sweet nothings to each other, and ran around the beach playing tag. It was like I was witnessing their love and excitement firsthand, and it was incredible to be able to capture those moments in photographs.
I believe that photography should be timeless, and these photos definitely have that quality. They are not just pictures; they are a representation of the love, joy, and excitement this couple is feeling as they embark on their next chapter as parents. It's all about freezing those fleeting moments in time and creating memories that they can cherish forever.
