HOW TO: INCLUDE YOUR DOGS IN YOUR PHOTOSHOOT
I get asked all the time, “can I include my dog in my photoshoot” or “do you take photos with dogs”?
OF COURSE! YES, bring on the puppers!
I love when you bring & include any part of yourselves into your session and maybe that means your fur babies!! However there are a few things to keep in mind before deciding to include your dogs in your photo session…
1. Know YOUR dog - does being around people or out of the house make them anxious, will they try to run away, be a complete spaz, etc. Maybe bring treats or a comfort item to keep them comfortable.
2. The weather - depending on the time of year for your session it could be really cold or really hot. Be prepared for that and prepare accordingly to bring water, etc. for your pups!
3. Be patient - I love working with dogs, but they are even harder to control than kiddos when it comes to photos. We can get some amazing shots, but you have to remember to be patient and that at the end of the day they are animals, not professional models. :)
4. Location, location, location - how your photos with your dogs will turn out depends a lot on the location. If you choose a private area where they can be off leash, roaming, for a more documentary approach the photos may turn out better than if you chose a populated area where they have to stay tied up with all the leashes and collars in the photos. Maybe somewhere near water if they enjoy swimming, or a cute at home session if you are all more homebodies... think about what is the best fit for y'all!
So, to answer the question, "can I include my dog in my photoshoot?" – the answer is a resounding yes! Just be prepared for a little bit of chaos, a whole lot of cuteness, and a whole bunch of love!!
This sweet engagement photo session below was this couple’s engagement session. It was a quick 30 minute mini session at Lake Crabtree Park in Raleigh, NC. We met at sunset by the water, included the dogs, and had a great time playing around with the light, the pups, and capturing the magic of the session.
